A simple & all-natural hair mask

I love finding recipes to natural face masks and hair masks. For years, I have been doing this avocado hair mask, but making it can be time consuming, so I have not mixed it in a while. Social distancing turned out to be the perfect opportunity to mix up my favourite mask!

Avocado & Egg Hair Mask

Ingredients:

1/2 Avocado

1-2 Eggs (Depending on your hair length)

A teaspoon of any oil of your choice

I play around with these ingredients. Sometimes instead of oil, I'll add a bit of tea tree oil which is good for your scalp in the Winter. Rosemary oil is a great addition as well because it has been said to stimulate hair growth.

Mash the avocado really well because you don't want chunks of it in your hair. Whisk the eggs and add a teaspoon of your oil or extra ingredient. Mix everything together and apply. It sounds simple and easy, but it does take a bit of time to mash the avocado and whisk the egg.

Once you apply the mask all over your hair, leave it in for 15 minutes (recommended) and put your hair up in a clip. I left mine in for about half an hour and the egg hardened so that made it a bit more difficult to wash it out.

When you're ready, hop in the shower, and wash it out with your regular shampoo - you should still condition your hair.

My hair felt and looked amazing afterwards. I missed doing this mask.

Benefits:

Avocado - Rich in Vitamins B & E. Vitamin B is said to reverse hair loss and increases your hair strength. Vitamin E will repair any damage to your scalp. It will moisturize your hair leaving it shiny. Apparently the ancient Egyptians used avocados in their hair for these exact reasons (Hairfinity, 2015).

Eggs - Eggs are rich in Vitamins A and E, biotin, and folate - all are known to keep hair thick and healthy. They are also rich in protein which have been linked to hair growth and strengthening (Healthline, December 2017).

Rosemary Oil - Rosemary Oil is an essential oil that is often used to treat hair growth because it promotes nerve growth, improves circulation, and has anti-inflammatory properties. It has also been said to help slow down greys (Healthline, September 2017).
